An arbitrary list that could just as well be random
I was just complaining that all the arguing over best-of lists and the point of the Golden Globe awards, and most people don’t actually know how to talk about culture without taking offense. So, why not do my own list, and do multiple lists over multiple days? Thanks to Letterboxd, I picked the 50 best movies of the decade, but I like categories, so that’s how I’m gonna do it. So, starting with,
MOVIES THAT MADE MY CRY AND RECONSIDER MY OWN PURPOSE ON THIS DYING EARTH
Interstellar (2014)
Yea, I know. You got me, Hans Zimmer!
Marjorie Prime (2017)
AI gone wrong in the worst way.
Room (2015)
Even though I knew how it turned out….that reunion at the cop car. Brutal.
Welcome to Me (2015)
One of the only movies to show that having a mental illness can make someone very selfish.
Her (2013)
A bleaker dystopia than The Road.
Margaret (2011)
This movie is over three hours. That’s really all I can say.
Eighth Grade (2018)
I really want a sequel in ten years because I have to know that Elsie is ok. I really, really, need to know.
Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
This taught me that there’s no point in making art because no one cares. I also cried over the cat. Multiple times.
Coming tomorrow: Endings!
